Wedding Dress Sewing Patterns: Vintage Patterns

Bring on the bridal sewing patterns! ‘Cause that is what you all really came here for, right? I’ve compiled a long list of sewing patterns for those of you wanting to take on the project of sewing your own wedding dress, but the list got so long, I decided to break the list up into five categories.

Below is the first category – vintage patterns! These are patterns which reflect styles from the 1920s-1970s. Some of these patterns are still in print and available from their manufactures, others are out of print and available on sites like eBay or Etsy.

Before you embark on sewing your own wedding dress, be sure to check out my series The Complete Guide to Sewing Your Own Wedding Gown.

Unfortunately, this 1970s boho inspired wedding/evening dress is out of print, which means some of you at the higher end of the size scale might be out of luck for this pattern if it makes you heart sing. I like this dress for brides who want something whimsical but a dress that covers a bit more than a slipdress style dress.

This Vogue pattern is a re-issue of the original dress and jacket which launched in 1940. The skirt of his dress is cut on the bias, which is characteristic of the period. The pattern maker rates this pattern as advanced, so make sure you plan to give yourself enough time to organize and test your project prior to making the final version.

This pattern is out of print, but well worth the price you might pay for it on sites such as eBay if you can find it. Originally released in 1935, this dress, jacket and top pattern would make a beautiful wedding outfit in any drapey fabric with shine.

This pattern features both a v-neck gown and an underskirt to give your wedding outfit that unique 1950s touch. The size range isn’t anything to get excited about – only up to a size 20 but the skirt is full enough to let out without major adjustments. The big bow on the back of the bodice is striking and gives this full dress even more oomph.

Close-fitting dress has lined bodice, flared skirt, bound buttonholes, boning and inside belt. Self-fabric or contrast band extends into tie ends, worn as halter for A or tied in a bow for B. I could see this dress in a taffeta fabric for a bride keen on this 1953 Vogue design. A nontraditional color like blue or magenta could be striking – and unforgettable.

Pattern Producer and Pattern Number: Vogue 9105
Manufacturer’s Size Range: 6-22
Print Status (as of Dec. 2018): Out of Print
Where to Buy: Online
This loose fitting dress is fitted through the waist and features a narrow hem.

Other vintage inspired patterns:

Elizabeth Gown by Named Clothing (sizes: EUR 32 – 46 US 0 – 14 / UK 4 – 18),

Cashmerette Monrose Top as a lace topper (sizes: 12 to 28, in three cup sizes – C/D, E/F, G/H)

Cashmerette Upton dress (sizes: 12 to 28, in three cup sizes – C/D, E/F, G/H).

This is the shortened version of the #cashmerettepatterns Holyoke dress pattern and great for wearing over skirts and jeans! Peplum tops almost never work for me but this one has a very defined waist and a larger bust area so I’m sure it’s going to be a winner once finished.

I decided not to quilt my fabric and removed the side tabs. I also serged the final two side seams instead of covering them with bias binding.

So when I found out I was pregnant last year, I decided I was going to make my pregnancy wardrobe on my own. Here is my list of the me made clothes I wore most frequently while pregnant. Many of these patterns are also breast feeding friendly as well.

I made your “ultimate reusable grocery shopping tote bag” but customized it by taking out the internal dividers. I hope everyone out there is taking care and stayi I hope everyone out there is taking care and staying in if they can. I have been feeling very inspired and blessed by all of the kindness I’ve seen extended to virtual strangers online in Norway and it makes me very proud that I live here. I received these flowers last week from @edgargrimberg and @tjeltagirl - two of my favorite humans - for #internationalwomensday, and they are still giving us love. So if you need some brightness in your life today, here it is 😍
